“Craftsman Vomited”

(How the homeowners’ described their home’s PREVIOUS aesthetic.)

A Dwell house was the aim. So that’s where we found ourselves, a craftsman house that wanted to be contemporary. Another quirky challenge? The previous homeowner was a football player - with a football player size and stature, indeed the scale of the home’s interior detailing was built to suit - current homeowners are not football players! Played upon advantage? The house had great existing symmetry and proportions. Lots of conversation, lots of iterations, lots of trying exciting new details, lots of trust but we pulled it off! This project was done in collaboration with design team members Rachael McClain, Jen Hinesman, project management by Joe Scanlon, and finish carpentry led by Andre Marcoux.

Completed @ Meadowlark Design + Build

A few of my own personal design highlights in this project included trying a new exterior material, reSAWN TIMBER co.’s shou sugi ban, the subtle in execution but unusual in form asymmetrical front porch, the custom welded steel interior and exterior railings and having to figure out how to turn a pre-existing tricky corner while also meeting code, and the fabrication of a custom sliding steel door using a new to us local manufacturer, Weldwork.
