“That’s a Commitment to Dining”

(Actual exclamation made by the homeowner after seeing the proposal for an addition.)

A family of four is dedicated to their home in a diverse neighborhood, but as professional (he) and civic (her) in uence grew they required a space that was more functional for hosting events and gathering their friends and family together. Four people having to share a single bathroom and the forced use of a non-functioning oven as pot storage were on the list of must address items as well. This project was done in collaboration with design team members Rachael McClain, Jen Hinesman, project management by Joe Scanlon, and finish carpentry led by Andre Marcoux.

Above is the complete drawing set used for construction. I was responsible for all of the pages + drawing work shown here with the exception of the enlarged plans and interior elevations. Exterior selections (roofing, windows, doors, siding, paint, gutters + downspouts, exterior lighting, exterior trim) were my responsibility to assist the homeowners in choosing, and I aided in the interior selections. While from a team capacity perspective it was logical to divide the responsibilities in this way, but my teammate and I both respected and desired the opinion and input of the other to ensure the entire finished home was as consistent as possible Shown below are iterations of proposed designs we worked through with the homeowners, various “working” models and drawings used to convey information to the field, and photos of the process of work.
